Countdown To 2012 Fun Run

Douglas Macmillan Hospital - First Time Recipient

David Price, who lives in Great Barr, took on the challenge of the 8.5 Great Midlands Fun Run course to raise money for Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent - a charity very close to his heart.

David said: "My mother, who lived in North Staffordshire, sadly lost her battle with Leukaemia nearly three years ago. And last year my Aunt, Dot Griffiths, died following a remarkable 11-year battle with Cancer.

"Not only did both receive wonderful care and treatment at Douglas Macmillan Hospice but the staff also provided much needed support and advice to our family during a very difficult time. After the death of my aunt last year, I vowed then that I would do something positive to raise money in recognition of the tremendous work undertaken by the staff at Douglas Macmillan.

"About twelve months ago, I started to jog to lose weight and after a friend of mine posted on his Facebook page that he was entering the Fun Run, I thought what a great incentive for me to continue my training and finally fulfil my pledge to raise money for the Hospice.

"I originally set myself a target to raise a minimum of £100 but received pledges totalling £150 within a week of entering back in February 2011, so I increased my target to £500. I was thrilled to reach the £1000 mark.

"I've never done anything like this before, so it was a real challenge for me to get fit and raise sponsor money but very fulfilling.
