Countdown To 2012 Fun Run

Troop Aid “Grab Bag” Initiative Gets £2500 Boost

An operation started from a building at the bottom of a Solihull garden, is providing injured service personnel, returning from war zones, with the bare essentials when they arrive home to the UK for treatment.

Al Sutton, founder of Troop Aid explained: "When injured service men and women return to the UK, they carry no personal effects or clothing. In some instances they literally arrive back wearing just a sheet.

While Alan asked for his sponsor money to be donated to Troop Aid, Fran's sponsor money was been distributed to Acorns Children's Hospice her chosen charity for 2011.

Examples of what Troop Aid supply include the 'Grab Bag' which contains washing and shaving kit, towel, face flannel, shower mules, socks, underwear, t-shirt and shorts.

Female requirements are also provided. Troop Aid's 'Grab Bags' are currently being sent out to the UK Military Hospitals in Afghanistan, Cyprus, the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and other Ministry of Defence Hospital Units within the UK.

During the Fun Run Presentation in November 2011, Al Sutton provided a graphic account of how an injured soldier is left with nothing when he returns home for treatement from the Field Hospital.
