Cancer Centre raise £4000
If you were looking for advice on how to successfully complete
the 8.5 mile Great Midlands Fun Run, there's was no better person
to turn to than former British Marathon Olympian Sally Ellis.
Cancer Support Centre Sutton Coldfield entered a team in the Great
Midlands Fun Run for the first time and enlisted the support of
Patron Sally Ellis from SE Fitness to advise the team on how best
to prepare for the 31 May event.

Cancer Support Centre's, Fundraising and Events Manager, Pat
Brighton explained: "We'd been considering opportunities to raise
our profile, and generate additional funds to help us deliver our
services to local people. We realised the Fun Run was an ideal
vehicle to help us start to achieve are objectives.
"On the day our team was bolstered by staff and members from the
Seb Coe, Moor Hall Hotel, and David Lloyd Health & Leisure
Clubs as well as staff and regulars from The Hardwick Arms in
Streetly, to raise money for the centre.
"Many of us tackled the course for the first time wearing specially
printed T-shirts generously sponsored by Coleshill District Ladies
Circle and our Patron Sally Ellis kindly devised a variety of
training programmes to ensure we enjoyed the day and didn't suffer
too much afterwards.
"We were thrilled to raise so much money at our first attempt. The
Fun Run added to what the team raised and we're extremely grateful
for their additional support.
"We're aiming to increase the numbers in our team next year
particularly as the centre is the chosen charity for Sainsbury's,
Mere Green, Four Oaks. We hope to have a least 100 team
members."
The Cancer Support Centre Sutton Coldfield, founded in 2000, is
located in Station House, Midland Drive and aims to provide a place
of sanctuary and support for all those affected by cancer including
family members and close friends.
Trained staff offer information, support and complementary
therapies, free of charge, so that no person with a need for its
services will be disadvantaged.
