Cremona’s put ‘Icing’ on their Fun Run Challenge
It’s been 19 years since Pat and Anthony Cremona last participated in the Fun Run. But inspired by the enthusiasm of their three children, John and twins Liam and Amy, they have come out of ‘retirement’ to take on the challenge on 1 June as a family.
The family will be joined on the Fun Run by a neighbour’s daughter, 11 year-old Christina Fee, who will also be tackling the course for the first time.
Pat said: “The kids have driven us crazy wanting to enter the Fun Run, so we’ve finally relented and agreed this year. As a family we have always been enthusiastic cake bakers. During the school holidays you can usually find our children and their school friends in our kitchen preparing different types of cakes. When we were thinking of a team name it was a simple choice - The Cake Bakers.”
Being a volunteer at the local Cancer Research shop in Erdington High Street, Anthony appreciates the need to raise money to continue research into treatment for cancer sufferers. “It’s great to see the children so enthusiastic over participating in the Fun Run and wanting to help raise money for Cancer Research.
“Registering for the Fun Run also focussed our minds on the fact that we needed to get fitter. So since registering a few weeks ago, we’ve all been out in Rookery Park, several times a week walking and jogging to get ourselves fit to face the challenge of the 8.5 mile course, including the infamous Cardiac Hill on the approach to Four Oaks Gate.”
