Regulars from The Wheatsheaf Pub, Birmingham Road, Walsall,
including the Landlady Jean James, have raised £1200 for their two
chosen charities.

The 11-strong team chose to raise money for the Walsall Manor
Hospital Children's Ward and Mecap House, Lysways Street. Jean
James explained: "I suggested to the regulars that we should look
to participate in a local event and use it to raise money for two
local charities in Walsall. We wanted to support children and the
Mencap House is literally in the next street from the pub so they
fitted the bill."
Other regulars who were unable to participate have been
extremely generous in their donations and the other Landlady,
Carrie Cooke, remained back at the pub on the
day relieving regulars of even more money for the
cause. For most of the team it was a real eye opener as
it's the first time many had tackled anything as challenging as the
Great Midlands Fun Run.
Jean James added: "We included running up Sutton Road towards Barr
Beacon in our training programme, as one of the pub regulars said
'If you can run up to Barr Beacon you can tackle 'Cardiac Hill'
which was the final hill out of Sutton Park at 6.5 miles
around the 8.5 mile route.
"We were thrilled to raise the amount of money we did and would lke
to thank the Fun Run for adding a little extra to the total we
raised.
"We intend returning next year with an even larger
team."
Their 11-strong team was among 400 people from across Walsall out
of the 6000 participating last May, including teams from Queens
Mary Grammar School, Walsall Hospice, Jonnies Angels, The Streetly
School, Park Hall FC, Walsall Wanderers together with Walsall based
members of the Tamworth Olympic Gymnastic Club, Wild Bunch, Spice
Birmingham, 31st Sutton Scouts, Spire: Little Aston
Hospital - the biggest ever contingent from the town.
